Quick answer
To cancel an Anytime Fitness membership, contact your home club, the gym where you signed up. Most clubs want written notice, handed in at the desk or sent by certified mail.
Also expect about 30 days’ notice. Contract members may also owe a buyout. Keep a signed copy or mail receipt, because that’s your proof.
This guide covers Anytime Fitness, the 24/7 gym franchise. Each club is independently owned, so your own membership agreement has the final word on how cancellation works.

Can I cancel my Anytime Fitness membership at any time?
Yes, but what it costs depends on your plan. Month-to-month members can cancel any time with notice. Contract members can cancel too, though usually with an early termination fee.
| Your plan | Can you cancel? | What you’ll usually pay |
|---|---|---|
| Month-to-month | Yes, any time | Dues during the notice period, often 30 days |
| Contract, still inside the term | Yes | Notice period plus a buyout set in your agreement |
| Contract, term finished | Yes | Notice period only, as it’s now month-to-month |
| Moved far away, medical, or military | Often yes | Fee may be reduced or waived with proof |
The fee side gets its own guide. For fees, see our Anytime Fitness cancellation policy and fees page for buyouts and exceptions.
What you need before you cancel
Gather these first. It turns a 30-minute argument at the desk into a five-minute visit, and it stops the club from asking you to come back later.
- Your full name as it appears on the membership agreement
- The name and street address of your home club
- Your member number or key fob number, if you have it
- A copy of your agreement, to check the notice period and buyout
- Photo ID if you’re cancelling in person
- Proof for any exception, such as a new lease or a doctor’s note
How to cancel your Anytime Fitness membership step by step
These steps show how to cancel Anytime Fitness membership at almost every US club. Your agreement might add a detail, like a specific form, but the order stays the same.

- Pick your methodGo to the club during staffed hours, or send a letter by certified mail if you can’t visit.

Cancel in person at your home club
In person is the quickest method when you live nearby. Go during staffed hours, since the club is open 24/7 but staff are only there part of the day.
Ask for their cancellation form, fill it in there, and don’t leave without a signed copy. A photo of the form on your phone works if they won’t print one.
Staff may offer a freeze or a cheaper plan. That’s allowed, but it’s your call. So if you’ve decided, just say no and ask them to process the cancellation.
Cancel by certified mail
To cancel Anytime Fitness membership from far away, certified mail is the best choice if you’ve moved or the club is hard to reach.
USPS gives you a receipt and tracking, which proves the date your notice arrived.
Send it to your home club’s address, not the corporate office in Woodbury, Minnesota. Because corporate doesn’t manage franchise memberships, it can’t cancel them.
Also add a return receipt if you want a signature on file. Then count your notice period from the delivery date, not the date you posted it.
How to cancel Anytime Fitness membership online
There’s no national online cancel button for Anytime Fitness. Some clubs accept email or an online form, while many still ask for a visit or mailed letter.
However, where you live can change that. California’s automatic renewal law requires businesses that let you sign up online to let you cancel online too, with stricter rules from July 1, 2025.
A federal “click-to-cancel” rule from the FTC would have forced online cancellation everywhere. The Eighth Circuit court vacated it on July 8, 2025, so it never took effect.
If your club accepts email, send the letter below and ask for a written reply. An email with no reply isn’t much proof, so follow up with certified mail after 7 days.
Anytime Fitness membership cancellation form letter
Use this if your club has no form of its own, or if you’re mailing your notice. Then fill in the brackets, sign it and keep a copy for yourself.
What happens after you cancel
After you cancel Anytime Fitness membership, your key fob usually keeps working until the notice period ends, since you are still paying for those days. After that, the fob stops opening the door.
Most US clubs bill through ABC Financial Services. If a charge appears after your end date, call the club first, then ABC at 888-827-9262 with your proof.
Instead of blocking the card or closing the account, cancel properly. The agreement still stands, and unpaid dues can be sent to collections, which is far harder to fix later.
Should you freeze instead of cancelling?
If you’ll be back within a few months, a freeze is often cheaper. That way you avoid a new enrollment fee and, on a contract, you skip the buyout.

Anytime Fitness cancellation FAQ
Can I cancel my Anytime Fitness membership over the phone?
Most clubs won’t accept a phone call alone because it leaves no written record. Call to ask the process, then send or hand in written notice.
Can I cancel at a different Anytime Fitness location?
Usually not. Each club is a separate business, and only your home club holds your agreement. Mail your notice there if you’ve moved.
Can I cancel Anytime Fitness by email?
Some clubs accept email. Only count it as done once the club replies confirming the cancellation date in writing.
Will I get a refund for the days I didn’t use?
Refunds for unused days are rare. Your notice period is normally billed as usual, and one-time fees like the key fob aren’t returned.
Do I need to return my key fob?
Most clubs don’t ask for it back, since you paid for it. Keep it in case you rejoin, as some clubs reactivate old fobs.
What if the club won’t respond to my cancellation?
Send certified mail with a return receipt, then dispute later charges with ABC Financial and your bank using that receipt as proof.
